- It is unconscionable to not free the enslaved from all the abuse that they are receiving.
- The slaves are bought with the local currency and bought with a cap of around $50 per person.
- Freed people are followed back to their places of origin to make sure that they're not frauds
People who are against buying slaves' freedoms (but do want to free the slaves somehow) say that:
- According to the laws of economics, buying slaves fuels demand, only encouraging slave traders to buy more slaves, maybe even fraudulent slaves (people who are really free).
- It is not realistic to follow every slave freed to their place of origin, and even if you could, the possibility of being misled is still apparent.
- According to Kevin Bales, president of Free the Slaves "This is like paying a burglar to redeem the television set he just stole"
